Pam Smyth
I like to take words - a phrase, a poem, a story, an issue - and explore them thoroughly so that the layers of meaning become layers of fabric connected by stitch.
I use raw edge applique and simple stitches on fabric and enjoy the serendipity of chance connections and the unexpected behaviour of materials.
Concerned with the plight of endangered species, I have just started to make a series of stylised animal portraits.
I lead art workshops in schools and take school and interest groups around the collections at the Keeping Gallery in Bromley.
